Concrete-VisionsTM by McKee BrothersTM LLC is your source for custom, hand-crafted concrete in Colorado. Concrete is a wonderful material. It features the strength and durability of an engineered product while exhibiting the artistic qualities of a piece hand-molded from clay. Concrete can sculpted into many different designs including very artistic and contemporary countertops, sinks, tables, fireplace surrounds, and other types of architectural elements.
10 Reasons to Select Us for Your Concrete Designs:
About the Making of Concrete
Our Process
Our process begins with you and your visions for your piece. We will work with you to customize and create your dream piece. Upon ordering, we will schedule to template the area for your concrete piece and to discuss designs. Color samples will be created for your approval prior to beginning work. The entire process from start to finish typically takes 4-6 weeks.
Concrete Characteristics
Concrete is a beautiful handcrafted product that utilizes many natural materials and can be fashioned into virtually an unlimited number of designs and colors. It features the strength and durability of an engineered product while exhibiting the artistic qualities of a piece hand-molded from clay. Our concrete is specially formulated to provide higher compressive strengths with less porosity. However, small hairline cracks may develop in the surface of the concrete over time and some air holes may be noticeable in the final product. This is normal for concrete and will not affect the structural durability of your piece.
Color
One of the benefits of designing with concrete is the nearly endless possibility for color! We use only the finest raw pigments available that are ground extra fine for more consistent and thorough coloring. These high performance color particles are custom mixed to match your sample and the entire piece will be colored—not just on the surface. While we strive for perfection, slight variations in color and texture, including color mottling, may be visible. These characteristics will only add the natural beauty and feel of your piece.
Recycled content
Is concrete “green”? The answer can be somewhat gray. By far the largest components of concrete are the natural gravels and sands which are often sourced locally, which is more environmentally sound than selectively cutting into mountain sides for granite slabs (many of which are imported from overseas). The most energy intensive part of concrete to produce, however, is the cement or the glue that binds the materials together. To help reduce this component, we substitute up to 25% of the cement with a 100% post-industrial recycled product that can contribute points to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for building sustainable structures.
Sealers
Most questions and concerns about the use of concrete revolve around the sealer. While concrete is inherently more porous than granite or other natural stones, modern mixtures have come a long way in creating denser concrete—in some cases surpassing the density of granite. However, we still recommend using a sealer. We use a high performance topical sealer for most of our work. A topical sealer eliminates routine maintenance such as waxing and will provide years of trouble free usage. For a natural finish we also offer penetrating sealers waxed with 100% natural carnauba.
Cutting and Placing Hot Items on Concrete Countertops
Another common question that comes up often with concrete relates to placing hot items on and cutting directly on them. Concrete is extremely hard and it is unlikely that you will damage the material. Like other natural stones, concrete is heat resistant, but it may be discolored by high temperatures or thermal shock. Sealers, while scratch and heat resistant, may get scratched or tarnished with excessive use. We use premium sealers that will help protect the concrete through many years of use. Scratches are typically cosmetic only and the durable surface of concrete can be polished and resealed many times.
Care & Warranty
We will provide you with Care & Maintenance and Warranty information when your project is installed. By following the Care & Maintenance guidelines, your surfaces will remain beautiful & durable for years to come. All of our concrete products are warranted against defects in creation for a period of one (1) year from the time of installation. Hairline cracks are normal and may develop over time. Owner-caused scratches or damage to the concrete are not covered under warranty.
